OSTEOPATHY

The central aim of osteopathy – is to get your body back into balance and remove barriers to good health manually. While many techniques are used to this the treatment itself is  based on  4 principles which are the essence of osteopathy:

  • The body is a unit, and the person represents a combination of body, mind and spirit.
  • The body is capable of self-regulation, self-healing and health maintenance.
  • Structure and function are reciprocally interrelated.
  • The rule of the artery is supreme

An osteopath treats every patient as a unique being and focuses on treating the whole patient, rather than just the disease.

Fine-tuned touch is the only tool osteopaths use to diagnose and treat the patient and a treatment consists of correcting problems in the body’s structure and aligning the musculoskeletal system through the use of manual techniques like: cranio-sacral therapy, fascia therapy, abdominal therapy and spinal alignments.

The objective of an osteopathy treatment is:
  • Liberating the vascular system and enhancing the blood supply to tissues
  • Relieving muscle tension
  • Helping the body to relax, recuperate and regenerate (heal)
  • Reduce pain and discomfort
  • Stimulate recovery
  • To prevent illness
  • Maintain health and well-being in body, mind and spirit
Conditions for which you can consult me as an osteopath:

  • Injured muscles or ligaments due to a fall or false movement

WHAT IS OSTEOPATHY?
  • A hands-on approach for diagnosis, evaluation and therapy
  • A hands-on approach focusing on factors that support human health and well-being, rather than on factors that cause disease (Salutogenese).
  • Is an Ecological (Functional) Medicine approach that recognises the key importance of external influences (such as nutrition, environment, e.g. exposure to toxins and lifestyle) and internal influences (such as gut bacteria, genetic disposition, allergy, nutritional deficiencies, biochemical disturbances) in causing disease. Ecological Medicine approaches aim to maintain or restore health by making use of those same influences in a therapeutic way.
THE OSTEOPATHIC TREATMENT APPROACH IS DEVELOPED TO
  • To help patients stay healthy through enhancing their well-being
  • To prevent illnesses from developing and decrease susceptibility for illness
  • In acute situations like back pain to treat the symptoms and offer pain relief
  • To seek and treat the origin of a health problem
  • To help patients towards recovery and healing from within
  • To find health, restore it and leave it alone.
OSTEOPATHY IS PATIENT CENTRED
  • Patients participation in the treatment is essential
  • Patients are helped to become more aware of their body (interoception) and responsible for their health and well-being
  • Patients are given insights to manage their health
  • Patients are  helped to comprehend more about the functioning of the body
